Okay, so I’m taking a bit of a break from reading at the moment. Well, at least from reading published books. This is largely because I need to sleep and when I read at bedtime I never want to put the book down. So until I, or anyone else (volunteers welcome) invent a way to read in your sleep, I need to take a break.
I also feel like I need to slow down with my reading. This past year I’ve rushed through so many books so fast and that’s been great but I want to get more paper back (as opposed to kindle) and take my time reading them, bit by bit, throughout the week. I’ve ordered three books off Amazon to get me started: It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne, Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer and Flying Tips for Flightless Birds by Kelly McCaughrain.
So whilst I haven’t been reading I’ve been doing a fair bit of writing. I’ve discovered (a bit late to the party) this website called Scribophile which I absolutely love. It’s an online community of writers where you earn points by critiquing other members works and once you have enough points you can post your own work for critique. There are also groups to join, contests to enter and tonnes of other fun to have.
I’m also doing Camp Nanowrimo this month and I have a fabulous cabin. It’s awesome to be able to chat with fellow writers about each others projects and the craft in general.
I highly recommend both sites and I’ll be back to the reading soon, I’m sure.
Farewell for now,
